Place des Épars

Year of completion: 2006
Scope: Water feature design, from concept to construction documents and on-site supervision and commissioning

In Chartres city center, which was completely redeveloped under the direction of Reichen & Robert and Jacqueline Osty, the Place des Éparts is located on a rich archeological site. Since the Middle Ages, water has played an essential role in Chartres’ activities and development. Every year in June, the water festival (Fête de l’eau) takes place, one of the biggest attractions in these parts. The festival is a celebration of the Eure, the main river that flows in this region. The fountain is a metaphor of the ever-changing conditions of the river, altering between calm, reflecting water to turbulence.
